Shopian, Aug 15 (KNO): Dangling electric wires tied with trees and worn-out wooden poles are posing a grave threat to the lives of people and their properties in the Sangran area of Imamsahib hamlet in south Kashmir's Shopian district.
The residents of the area told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they are living under constant fear due to low-lying electric wires tied with trees and decaying electric poles.
The electric lines touch the roofs of houses and trees on roads, posing a threat to our lives and properties, said Junaid Ahmad, a local.
Expressing serious concern over the low-lying overhead transmission lines, he said there are around 50 to 60 households that are in immediate need of electric poles and wires for hassle-free power supply.
We have been requesting the concerned department to replace the dangling and damaged electric wires and poles but our pleas fall on deaf ears, Junaid said.
Another local, Nawaz, said that during the last Back-to-Village programme, they demanded electric poles and wires in the area but nothing has been done.
“All low-tension wires in our village have been tied with trees due to which the wires are very low and weak which often get damaged,” he said, adding, “We have taken up this issue with the administration several times but to no avail.”
The locals said that the weak power infrastructure often leads to faults due to which they are getting unscheduled supply. They said their lives and properties are also at risk.
They have reiterated their appeal to the administration to look into the matter and provide them with new electric wires and poles—(KNO)
